MOHAMMED EL-MASAOUDI
Founder & CEO
In Morocco, aviation is no longer just a means of transportation; it has become a strategic infrastructure. As the country continues to accelerate the development of its mobility networks, several private players have chosen to reach new heights. Air Ocean Morocco is one of them.
Established in 2015, the company was born from an unexpected expertise in aerial mapping. Its founder and CEO, Mohammed El-Masaoudi, previously led SEPRET, a company specializing in aerial surveying and cartography that already operated its own aircraft. Expanding into air transport became a natural evolution, culminating in the acquisition of the company’s first VIP jet. Ten years later, Air Ocean Morocco has evolved into an integrated aviation group recognized across the African market.
Today, the fleet consists of ten aircraft, including Learjet 45s, Hawker 800s, Challenger 604s, Legacy 600s, and Global 5000s, capable of operating both medium- and long-haul missions.
The company’s business model is built around two core activities: business aviation and air ambulance services, a highly specialized sector. Air Ocean Morocco is currently the only airline on the African continent to hold EURAMI certification, the European benchmark for international air medical transport. Each medical aircraft is equipped with a fully integrated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and operated by a dedicated medical team available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Approximately 500 medical evacuations are carried out each year.
This medical expertise has also been demonstrated during major international sporting events. Air Ocean Morocco was the sole operator responsible for all emergency medical aviation services during the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, 2024, and 2025–2026, and has also been entrusted with providing the medical aviation coverage for the 2030 FIFA World Cup™ in Morocco, including emergency response missions and the transportation of teams and staff between host cities.
Morocco plays a central role in this strategy. “Our base, our hub, is Morocco,” emphasizes Mohammed El-Masaoudi. More than 80% of the company’s revenue is generated outside the country, primarily across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Morocco’s strategic geographical location enables rapid deployment, a decisive advantage for both medical emergencies and business travel.
Another strategic pillar is aircraft maintenance. In Benslimane, Air Ocean Morocco operates a maintenance base certified by the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority, employing around twenty qualified technicians and featuring a 2,000-square-meter hangar. This vertically integrated model reduces operating costs while strengthening the group’s competitiveness against European operators.
The company’s ambitions match its impressive growth trajectory. Following US$20 million invested over the past two years, an additional US$40 million is planned over the next three years. Expansion plans include the arrival of another Global 5000 and growing the fleet to 15 aircraft by 2030.
At the same time, a strategic partnership with Gulf Helicopters, a subsidiary of QatarEnergy, paves the way for the development of offshore helicopter operations in West Africa, particularly serving the oil and gas industry.
Named Africa’s Best Air Charter Company in 2022, Air Ocean Morocco now has an even greater ambition: to become a global benchmark in air ambulance services.
“Aviation is a world without borders. The sky is the limit,” says its CEO.
Like Morocco itself, the company invites investors, travelers, and decision-makers to look beyond horizons and discover a country that has become a leading aviation gateway between Africa and the rest of the world.
